New Details about the 2024 Mazda CX-50
The Iconic Vehicle Returns

Mazda announced the upcoming CX-50 in July, providing new information about the new rugged crossover SUV.

The vehicle will be built around the lifestyle requirements of North Americans, empowering them to adventure in the great outdoors.

Two Efficient Drivetrains

Mazda says the CX-50 will be available in four models with two efficient powertrain choices. Engine options include the Skyactiv-G 2.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, producing 187 bhp, or the Skyactiv-G 2.5L turbocharged variant with the company’s i-stop technology at 227 bhp. Both drivetrains will come with Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with quick-shifting, the brand reveals. Sport and off-road modes can be selected with the Mi-Drive control, enabling the vehicle to perform optimally in varying conditions.

Four Trim Levels

Mazda will release the CX-50 in four trim levels, the entry-level CX-50 GS-L, the CX-50 GT, the CX-50 GT Turbo, and the range-topping CX-50 Turbo Meridian Edition. The GS-L will come with an array of premium safety and technology features as standard, including dual-zone climate control, LED interior lighting and the Mazda Harmonic Acoustic audio system with eight speakers. Drivers will also get conveniences such as four USB ports, a 7-inch TFT LCD and a power rear liftgate. On the exterior, key features include LED turn signal indicators, dual exhaust outlets and 17-inch black metallic alloy wheels.

The CX-50 GT differentiates itself from the GS-L thanks to the addition of automatic power-folding side-view mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels and a Bose 12-speaker premium sound system, complete with a three-month SiriusXM subscription. Passengers benefit from six-way adjustable seating in the front, leather surfaces throughout, and ventilated front seat pads. Additional safety features include a 360-degree view camera, blind-spot and lane assist, and traffic jam assist, which helps control the car in a line of slow-moving vehicles.

After the GT comes the CX-50 GT Turbo. This vehicle offers drivers a higher level of performance while staying true to the CX-50’s playful, outgoing spirit. Turbo models come with the Skyactiv-G 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the i-Activ AWD system, which has both an off-road and a towing mode.

The main upgrades to this trim level are engine-related. However, drivers will also enjoy additional perks, including steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and enhanced exterior design elements.

Capping off the announcement is the CX-50 Turbo Meridian Edition, with or without the Apex Package. Variants will come with a side rocker garnish and distinctive hood graphics, various outdoor-specific accessories and 18-inch alloy wheels. Upgrading to the Apex Package grants drivers a roof platform, roof-mounted crossbars and front and rear splash guards. The system, Mazda says, will enable campers, hikers, skiers, and adventurers to take more equipment with them on their travels.
